  Cassie’s Comet

It’s 1979 when 22-year-old Cassie Tate, an aimless cashier at the Piggly Wiggly in East Texas, jumps at the chance to visit her Army boyfriend, stationed in Germany, only to discover his invitation is a ruse. He went AWOL, is mixed up in gun trafficking, and enticed her abroad as part of a Green Card scheme. In a darkly comedic turn, she becomes entangled in his plot to sneak a terrorist into the States. Desperate and on the run, she hatches a risky plan to get back home. With nowhere to go and a gun in her back, can she pull it off?

About the Author

Scotty Comegys grew up in Shreveport, Louisiana, with close connections to the East Texas towns featured in Cassie’s Comet. Her depictions of Europe reflect adventures abroad during her 20s, with backpacks and bicycles, a VW bus, and colorful characters who inspired her novel. She taught high school English in Shreveport before spending a decade in the Midwest, where she attended graduate school in Indiana and worked in the Chicago news scene. She returned home in 1985 to practice law and morphed from big city single to married with children, juggling business law with hometown PTA, while dabbling in fiction writing. Her flair for capturing Southern characters and conflicts in her short stories earned awards and praise among local and small press publications. A retired attorney, her narrative voice bears little resemblance to her published work on legal topics. For Scotty, this, her debut novel, represents a new leap.
